About Sonjia

Connecting Through Comfort

Sonjia M. Colson is a native of Rougemont, North Carolina. She has earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education and a Master’s Degree in Human Development Studies. Currently, Sonjia is an elementary school teacher and has been in the education field for seven years. She enjoys working with her students and spending time with her family and friends. They fuel her drive to write stories and to be successful.

She was inspired to write children’s books for a variety of reasons. First, Sonjia wanted to bring awareness to bibliotherapy (therapy through the connection to books). Additionally, her goal is to help all people learn coping skills to deal with  grief. Furthermore, Sonjia wanted to write stories that provided memories about her grandma's house and the legacy of her family.

Going to Grandma’s house is always a wonderful time—full of delicious smells, beautiful music, and warm feelings. The best memories are always made at Grandma’s house, whether she is entertaining a house full of people or teaching you how to make biscuits in her kitchen. This book celebrates those wonderful childhood memories grandparents give us, and reminds us to cherish those memories forever.

What readers are saying about Safe Haven

It helps children and adults with loving memories of the past and a sweet way to deal with losing someone close to you

I met the author at church and was happy to hear that she wrote a book for kids. After talking with her I quickly ordered the book from Amazon. I’m pleased to report that it’s a great book directly written for children. If you want a book encouraging close family relationships and respect for grandparents, parents, aunts and uncles, this is the book for you. Highly recommended.

This is a pleasant reminder of Sunday Dinners at Grandma’s house.

A lovely story!!
